I have been a teacher for 26 years, a Headteacher for 11 years and, at the age of 50, this much I know about basic budgeting.
A fundamental truth about school budgets: If your costs rise but your income remains the same you have less spending power. There is one person in the whole country I need to understand this fundamental truth about school budgets, but I fear she doesn’t…(and her Shadow isn’t much better).
And as our costs continue to rise, our funding has fallen. Since 2010 we have had our capital budget cut by £349,000. I would love Nicky Morgan to visit the biggest school in York – which is one of the richest cities in the UK, which is sixth biggest economy in the world – on a rainy day and see how many buckets we have to use to catch the water coming through our leaky ceilings.
