A bit more on marking


So, back to my least favourite part of teaching: marking. We have a system at my school whereby students complete a piece of work and get a “follow-up question” which is designed to either plug gaps or push them forward. In maths I believe we have a good system which does work well, other subjects have a varied approach to it and experience varying levels of success with their follow up.

After every unit of work (generally 2 weeks, some 1 or 3 weeks though) students books are given an end of unit sticker which has is graded and a target added. The target is purely curriculum based, no “concentrate more” or “improve your presentation” type of comments and then one of a couple of follow up questions added.
