TDT comments on the TALIS 2013 data | Teacher Development Trust

Today, the OECD has released the new TALIS report which releases international comparative data on teachers’ working conditions and learning environments. Key findings for the Teachers in England are:

Only 35% of teachers feel the profession is valued by society, although in schools where they are able to contribute to leadership decisions they are more than twice as likely to feel their profession is valued.

Teachers in England report the lowest job satisfaction of any country in TALIS, with the lowest proportion happy to recommend their school as a ‘good place to work’ and the strongest negative correlation between job satisfaction and ‘managerial’ approaches to performance management.
