ssphonix: Phonics screening (3): What next?

There is some very sound guidance on how to follow-up the screening check on the DfE website (now hosted on gov.uk) so the point that I would wish to make strongly here is simply this:

The screening is there to flag up when a child may, at this stage, have some issues with phonic decoding – and this is important. However It is not designed to be diagnostic in the sense of indicating clearly what those issues are. It would have to be far more lengthy and complex to achieve this, which would not be appropriate as a universal requirement.
