‘Progressive’ vs‘Traditional’ – Where do I go from here?

You don’t have to read many blogs, or spend more than a few minutes on twitter, to stumble across fundamentally different ‘educational philosophies’ and approaches to teaching. As a new-to-be trainee teacher (so, yes, extremely inexperienced) who is eager to learn, it is impossible not to be drawn into following these conversations, reading all these blogs…and being left very confused as to what is going on. Do I agree with ‘progressives’ or those who favour more ‘traditional’ approaches…and does it actually matter?

I have no doubt that the debates I’m stumbling across are making me think a lot about education, questioning my presumptions and they make me think hard about things I’ve read so far.
