Privilege and Naivety: Where do I go from here?

This last week has been, I believe, a particularly significant one in many respects.

It is the Easter Holidays from my cosy boarding school job and I have been back home in Wolverhampton undertaking a week’s ‘orientation experience’ in a school nearby. It is a compulsory part of the preparation for the Teach First programme which I am starting in June and, I have to admit, I was arrogantly sceptical about how necessary or useful it would be, and was rather reluctant to give up the first week of my holiday for it. But, my god, I am glad I went. I have not only had extremely useful observations and conversations with experienced teachers but, on a more fundamental level, it has caused me to think deeply about my own education, my attitudes, and how I need to prepare for my teacher training.
