‘And these words shall then become
Like Oppression’s thundered doom
Ringing through each heart and brain,
Heard again – again – again – ‘Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number –
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you –
Ye are many – they are few.’ Percy Shelley, ‘The Mask of Anarchy’
It is that time of year. Alcohol and food excess is pretty much mandated, hopeful resolutions are being set into motion and teachers are resting, mostly, with an eye to preparing for the new year ahead. It is a time to be positive and hopeful that our schools and our students will have a better year ahead.
