Blog Post 8: it’s half term and I’m feeling strangely redundant.

We did it! The first half term is over. Eight weeks of hit and miss lessons, dubious homework, repetitive marking and dreaded toilet duty, all washed down with more than a few bottles of red wine.

There have been some highs (one of my Year 7 students cooked me a three course meal), some lows (when asked to write down one or two things they had learnt this half term, I overheard one Year 10 student mutter that he hadn’t learnt anything at all) and some downright bizarres (my feedback to a Year 7 French assessment: what went well: ‘you have provided some interesting personal details’; even better if: ‘you had written any of this in French’.) I hate the term, ‘emotional rollercoaster’, but the last eight weeks have certainly been a bumpy ride and along the way I’ve felt a mixture of anger, triumph, regret, exhaustion, sadness, frustration, joy…
