I have just completed a year of teaching in London. The school I was working in was in special measures when I arrived and I was greeted by a staff body and leadership team that was focussed and determined to come out of special measures as quickly as possible.
The year has been a never-ending stream of local authority and Ofsted visits. The teaching and support staff have been under constant pressure which has, inevitably, been felt by the children.
An unrelenting drive for improvement was highlighted by an excellent programme of training for staff of all levels, and the opportunities for teamwork and reflection have been outstanding. I feel I am now twice the teacher I was when I arrived.
I, and many other teachers in the school, have averaged an 83 hour week since October as we have sought to develop the learning and teaching in the school…
